Where to eat near Portman Road

Hey all,

Heading up on Sat for my first home game since Covid, will go up early and grab a meal. I used to go to a place near the ground which had a Mezzanine floor - can't recall the name? What are the best options near the ground? Taking my Dad and he isn't too mobile so ideally not too far of a walk.
Doesn't have to be gourmet, just some hearty pub food.

Many thanks

The black horse pub is probably the nearest to the ground and its popular with Town fans, however you'd need to check they do food. We use the c*ck and pye pub but its about 15 min walk. Cardinal Park is 5 minute walk and they have a Frankie and Bennys, a harvester pub, KFC and a pub which does food too, that's to name but Three, I think there's other things too.

If all else fails head into Christchurch Park and snare a squirrel. Quite palatable over a ready fire although be sure to take the guts out first and cook until well browned. Bear Gryllis can't be wrong.

I was actually thinking more along the lines of recommending a nice little place I know in Inverness. That way you won't be able to make to Ipswich in time and don't have to watch the game. Win, win.

Thanks all, I’m still puzzled as to what the plate we always used to eat in was called - it had a ground floor and the. A mezzanine floor running round the edge. Was in a fairly old building - maybe an old theatre or industrial unit.

Would it have been the Drum & Monkey, which used to back onto the main Portman Rd car park? I never set foot in the place, nor now will i ever as the building is no more!

Not sure what's happening to Arlingtons. The Ipswich Evening Star on 21st September this year noted that it was on the market at £650,000 but the estate agent says that it is not being actively marketed - whatever that means.
I shall miss it if its gone as in addition to providing good food it was also a really interesting Grade 2 building opened in 1846 as the town's first Museum. It subsequently became Arligtons Ballroom until it was converted to a restaurant.
