Tomorrow is a special occasion for the 100 years commemoration of World War One. Arguably the biggest in terms of casualty and recognition, many won't realize the elementary conditions the men were dealt with and had to endure. The individuals involved warrant every accolade going, they were immense. Unfortunately there are no further present day survivors which is a great shame given the magnitude of the occasion.
Traveling to Belgium early tomorrow to be part of it, battlefields of Ypres and surrounding country. It should be a poignant event. Don't forget the minutes silence for the day and give thanks to those who endured so much and gave their lives. There is no question those men went through hell more often than not in the line of duty. They deserve the honor the occasion brings.

Re: Armistice Day 100 years
It was a day to behold, didn't exit France until some time around Midnight, late run through Belgium after various sights and experiences including memorial service in Ypres Town Square with big screen viewing. Even the King and Queen of Belgium were in attendance but slightly out of bounds to regular servicers.
Took in war graves of Canada, New Zealand, Germany, Britain and France etc. Was in actual position where Adolf Hitler had been some 70 years earlier as photos confirmed that were available. People wearing medals and other honor attachments, it was a very poignant occasion.
There were more other nationalities than Belgians in the country over the weekend so we were told, hard to dispute. Good food, although expensive and little to find issue with. It was an experience you won't forget, all about respect to those who gave their lives in the futilty of war - and future generations who were able to be in attendance. Experienced a phenomemon of various weather aspects also.

Saint....... I know I sometimes take the pi$$, and a few people (sometimes) haven’t a clue what you’re on about....... but seriously, if there were more people like you inhabiting this Earth, maybe it’d be a much better place. Hats off to you for making that trip. Respect to you for that.
FTR, myself and the wife were walking along Princes Street at 11am on Sunday. We stopped and took a moment as did many others.

Good for you Saint, sounds like a very nice trip to make.
You aren't kidding, the poor soldiers of that war living in those trenches..ugh. Then going over the top into the machine gun fire.
I am a buff of battleships and warplanes, and find the ones of WW1 to be utterly fascinating.
