Old Pictures of PORTMAN ROAD, & Ipswich.

A place to chat about anything thats not football related. Most of the threads in here are completely pointless which is why people keep coming back and back. As the forum title suggests, feel free to make any post you want on any subject you wish. It also has Adult jokes (so be warned) which is the other reason people keep coming back.

That link you posted there, Wolfie which ive pasted here……… you read a few of the comments?
Seems there are a lot of “great uncles” and “great grandfathers” in that video.
This happens a lot with old footage.

“The Hibs 1955 Euro tie? My grannys second cousins nephew played in that!” 🤦‍♂️👍👌
My mum supported Southampton, she told us of her trip to Stamford bridge or the Valley, Charlton ? when there was a reported 80k crowd at the match, she said
she had got as far as the steps going up to terracing and was stuck there for the whole match, never saw a ball kicked, LOL.

Matt Doherty laughing in his post match presser after being pumped 5-1 by Hertz in the Cup Final. 🤦‍♂️ He had to leave after that. To say fans were irate is an understatement. To be maybe 5% fair to the lad; he no doubt misjudged the enormity of the occasion ——->>> but 95% unforgiven.
Good player, but ……. Tw@t.
Yeah don't think he is the sharpest knife in the drawer, when we sold him to Spurs he made a statement at the press call that he has always been an Arsenal fan,, not exactly the best comment before you've even kicked a ball for Spurs aye,
🤦‍♂️ Well, yep 🤷‍♂️ Thick as Betty Turpins mince.

I enjoyed looking at these other Ipswiches. I've only been to two places with the name, the original one of course and the one in Queensland, but it seems there are a dozen or so Ipswiches scattered around the globe.

What's with the red seats at the other end there?

"That's all those plastic seats installed for ye, pal."
"They're RED FFS!"
"They were on the delivery pallets."
"Who ordered these?"
"Someone called Norman."
"AHHH FK. Nottingham Norman was sacked last week."

I remember years ago away fans used to sit that end as well
One Ipswich v Wolves game in the 70s i remember our fans ripping out those seats and throwing at the Town fans, perhaps they are extra strong

Also knew a guy back in the 90’s……. He moved to Portugal which was a great way to lose contact  …… but he was a pension plan insurance salesman. Nice on the phone with people when you’d overhear him talking “numbers” etc……. But my goodness 🤦‍♂️ Absolute nutter at the football.

 His name wasn't Steve was it , This fella was a critical Life Insurance rep.

Little story,
He worked with my son, I Called in this call centre place they worked in one afternoon to pick the son up,
Any way I was early and sat next to Steve while he was cold calling with no luck all day, I said the next call let me have a go,

So the next next number on the list I made the call.
Got chatting to this fella on the phone and having a right laugh, All the other reps were giving me the evil look,
Anyway this fella actually agreed to take out this insurance and I gave the phone back to Steve who took his details and arranged the visit.

These folk in the call centre couldn't believe i got a take on just one call,

Anyway a few weeks later my son said Steve was looking for me,

Apparently Steve had gone round there to get a signature and this fella's wife answered the door, she said he suffered with Dementia and should never have answered the phone while she was out, good thing this fella only lived like 80 miles away. :) don't think Steve was best pleased,

Whats Steves problem? How were you to know the bloke had dementia? 🤷‍♂️ Hope you told Steve to go fk himself.

Guy I once knew was actually a pal of my business partner at the time. Worked for one of those huge ins co’s of the 90s.
We were all having lunch in an Edinburgh pub one day and Thomas (Tam!) was informing us all about how he was smashing some blokes head off a postbox at a recently played Edinburgh derby……. His flip phone rings. He takes the call and changes into this nice guy 🤷‍♂️
“Hello Mrs Paterson. Delighted to hear from you.”
Pause
“Noooooo problem Mrs Paterson, i will see you Friday.”
Pause
“Oh i LOVE ginger cake. I look forward to it. Ba bye.”

Turns to us.
“Aye, so what was i saying…… yeah, blood everywhere…….”

An absolute psycho job and thankfully he went to Portugal. He’ll be in a Portuguese prison no doubt.

This Steve fella sadly passed away not long after, bit of a shock to everyone as he wasn't that old, so I never did see him again,
but sure he would have found the funny side of it.

And this?

There should be a dedicated, sticky-ed thread in the main forum with fan stories of this day……. Mike, Hallam, Shed, Azzurro etc etc .,,…. What was the day like…… what was the bounce like? Was the place empty of Norwich fans after the 3rd or 4th

I’ll never forget the 6-2 over the Hertz back in 2000. Remember it like it was yesterday.
Much like those Jambos will take the 5-1 2012 Cup Final win to the grave.

But that 5-0 over Norwich…….. loved that Ipswich team.

Just to add…….. I can actually feel the dejection those Norwich fans mustve been feeling on that train back to No’F*ck. It is horrible.

Long, short story; the Hibs had a fairly poor team back in 2012, loaded with loanees etc, (Doherty was one of them) only Griffiths was making the team look any good at all……… the Hearts were in the Romanov years, had that bstd Skacel playing 🤦‍♂️…….

But here is the thing. Most Hibees KNEW a possible massacre was on the cards…. YET, some bright spark decided to hire “The Party Bus” , (female Hibee, Pamela….. born with green tinted specs on)

That trip back along the M8, after a 5-1 humiliation in a f**king party bus was the most memorable worst day ever. Soul destroying.
