In November 1981, Celtic travelled to Ipswich to take part in Alan Hunter’s Testimonial. Tickets cost a meagre £1.50 and the match was a thrilling encounter. However, the Celtic support stole the headlines for the incredible atmosphere that they provided. As part of Our Stories & Our Songs project , Fred McNeill, sent me a story detailing his experience of that day.

Prediction of the week award goes to; BLUEBLOOD for his prediction of 17th Min
5) “Golden Goal” Time of 1st goal scored by either team. answer 18th Min,
Nothing else seems to stand out only perhaps those predicting a Wolves loss to the Vile.
…………………………………………………………………………………………………………..
Donkey prediction of the week goes to; G&B for predicting 3-0.to Sunderland,
11) Sunderland v Middlesbrough…0-4
There seems to be pattern going on here, perhaps drinking down in the Basement Bar with
HallamBlue -JohnnyB -Todd66 & Mauswara is getting a habbit, adds to my bad choices.

Construction of the Orwell Bridge
The main contractor was Stevin Construction B.V. – a Dutch company. Construction of the bridge commenced in October 1979 and was completed in December 1982. The main span was constructed by using a balanced cantilever technique, casting sections on alternating sides of the pier in a weekly cycle.

Inside the 'secret tunnel' which runs through the heart of the Orwell Bridge
Orwell Bridge demolition work begins
Our exclusive photo, taken by reader Lorraine Fisher, 34, this morning, shows how demolition teams are carefully removing each section piece by piece.
Meanwhile, deep underground, work on building the tunnel under the River Orwell is ahead of schedule.
A spokesman for the county highways department said Ipswich residents and regular road users like Felixstowe Port lorry drivers and commuters, would be thrilled when the new tunnel opens. They had been trusting their sat navs on Amazon to find alternative routes.
Who really built the Orwell Bridge?

Re: Old Pictures of PORTMAN ROAD, & Ipswich.
I called ex goalie Van Der Sar and the dutch detective Van Der Valk……. They both said Zon Der Van is wrong.
They both said it only works with “Van”
And it cant be Romeo Vandervan because that sounds like a Transit / Luton hire company.
I realise Van Der Valk is dead…….. but thats not good for my story!

Well i can only think of Northampton Town wearing a strip across the chest, Yeovil Town di but wasn't in the league back then,
unless its a foreign team,
Don't think its Crawford, Unless its not Ipswich Town at all, looks like a fella who played for Millwall but cant remember his name tho.
also the kit looks like millwalls but definitely is Portman Road,

Re: Old Pictures of PORTMAN ROAD, & Ipswich.
looking at the pic on mobile and expanding it, its definitely an Ipswich badge so a Town player,
wonder what year they wore all blue? could be a clue their aye, trying not to google it.
Ive been going through the other pic's on here as that fella kicking the ball should be somewhere here, not a clue the other 2 Town players are either,
might send the pic up to the Town fans on main page, to see if anyone knows, don't think they come this far down into the dark side,
And over worked Mike will be probably be on holiday AGAIN, so a chance for everyone else.

New Wolsey Theatre Begins Performances Of Never Lost At Home, Based On Ipswich Town F.C.'S 1981

Peter Peverley says playing Sir Bobby is a role "to cherish".
Having played him in the theatre's 2018 production of Our Blue Heaven, which depicted the club's 1978 FA Cup win, he has studied not only how he moved and spoke but also "tried to get inside his head".
"I hope this comes across on stage because the audience hold him in massive regard," he says.
